Physical characteristics:
This perennial grows to approximately 30 cm in height. The radical leaves are oblanceolate, with uneven serrations along the edges. The plant produces a single capitulum (flower head) composed of ligulate (strap-shaped) flowers. From the stem to the involucre, stiff black bristles cover the plant.

a monotypic genus; an endemic species
Japanese name origin:
The “kozori” comes from “kamisori,” the Japanese word for razor. The name was given because of the stiff black bristles on the stem and involucre.
