- This perennial grows to approximately 30 cm in height. It is dioecious (separate male and female plants). The entire plant is covered with white woolly hairs. The basal leaves are thick and broadly lanceolate, with rounded tips. Tubular flowers are at the center of involucral bracts that resemble petals.

- Japanese name origin:
