Physical characteristics:
This perennial grows to approximately 15 cm in height. The stems and the undersides of the leaves are purple, and the leaves are linear-lanceolate. The flowers grow horizontally at the tips of the stems, with tubular calyces that have prominent veins. The petals range from white to pale pink.

Mid-July to September
Habitat:
rocky areas in and above the sixth stage

Japanese name origin:
The “mantema” seems to be an abbreviation of “manteman,” a plant introduced to Japan during the Edo period. However, the exact origin of the name remains unclear.
