Physical characteristics:
This perennial grows to approximately 30 cm in height. The lower leaves are divided three or four times into groups of leaflets, and the tips of the leaflets are divided into three. The veins of the leaves are deeply sunken, with a powdery whitish tint. The plant has no petals.

The “karamatsu” (Japanese larch) comes from the flower’s resemblance to the sprouting of new pine needles on Japanese larches.
