Physical characteristics:
This perennial grows to approximately 10 cm in height. The leaves, clustered at the base, are spoon-shaped with slightly rolled edges.
Blooming period:
May to early June
Habitat:
rocky areas in and above the fifth stage
Other information:
It is found on rare occasions on the sea cliffs at the foot of the mountain. This endemic variant species is considered a variety of yukiwarikozakura (Primula modesta var. fauriei).
Japanese name origin:
The “yukiwari,” literally “snow-breaker,” comes from its early blooming in spring, when snow still lingers.
